Crispy Sesame Chicken

Takeaway Inspired Sesame Glazed Robata Chicken Recipe

Homemade Sesame Glazed Robata Chicken Recipe

Our Sesame Glazed Chinese Chicken is filled full of natural herbs, spices and ingredients, one of them being our sought after manuka honey (which we use so much as, we give Winnie the Pooh a run for his money!).

The reason why we love manuka honey so much is because this honey has a unique floral taste to it.  Produced from the nectar of the Manuka Tree, it is often used as a sugar substitute and adds a unique earthy flavour to the dish.

One of my own personal favourites, this dish is rich in flavour and is relatively healthy due to all of the natural ingredients having strong, unique flavours which complement each other extremely well.

The thing that makes this dish such a sought-after meal to either purchase from a takeaway, or to make at home, is the fact that the honey used in the dish gives the chicken a real tender bite.  Whereas the crispy batter which is seasoned with the salt free paprika, and 5 spice mix provides much needed crunch.

Finished with a juicy sauce which rounds the dish off nicely.

For this dish, you can use a ROBATA GRILL which is a Japanese designed grilling plate.  Perfect for cooking your produce thoroughly and perfect for when you are entertaining also.  The Japanese Robata Grill is flat so it is great to use when you are cooking dishes where the meat has been sliced thinly or into chunks as it will cook quickly.

That said, as we are wanting to gain a real crispy taste to our Sesame Glazed Chicken, we will be using an air fryer.
Robata Grill
A perfect go to recipe which is easy to follow, not time consuming, trouble free to follow and a dish which everyone is bound to love.  The dish itself will serve up to four people and has far lower calories than that of a takeaway bought chicken dish.

As with all of our recipes, we aim to steer clear of added salt yet produce dishes that are still flavourful and moreish.... and this takeaway (Fake away) inspired Chinese dish leaves nothing to the imagination.  Containing our unique Chinese 5 Spice Alternative which has received multiple positive reviews!

Method Of Preparing & Cooking Your Sesame Glazed Chicken:

To begin, turn on your air fryer to a high temp and grab a large mixing bowl along with a couple of plates.

In the bowl add the two eggs and whisk gently.  On one of the plates add your corn flower and on the last plate place your flour, sumac, pepper, Shanghai 5 spice seasoning and paprika together and mix so that all the ingredients become one.

Dry off your chicken using some kitchen roll and then begin to dredge them firstly in the cornflour, then the egg mix and finally the combined seasoning with flour mix.  Set aside for 5 minutes.

Place the chicken pieces into the air fryer and spray them with the fry light spray.  Cook on a high heat until thoroughly cooked - approximately 15 to 20 minutes, but please check your air fryer guidelines for the correct temperature and timing.

In the meantime, heat a wok on your stove and add to it the garlic cloves (chopped finely) with a few squirts of fry light spray oil.  Add all other sauce ingredients to the wok and turn heat down to medium.  Mix so that all of the ingredients are combined.  Cook until the sauce reduces by about a third (should take 2-3 minutes).

Once cooked remove from the air fryer and dry on kitchen paper (there should not be a great amount of residual oil).  Add the chicken back to the wok which contains the sauce ingredients and gently cook whilst you prepare your rice.

When both dishes have cooked thoroughly turn the heat off.  Plate your rice first (draining the excess water away) followed by the Chinese chicken.  Top the dish with a liberal sprinkling of sesame seeds and the chopped spring onions.

Lastly serve your healthy Crispy Sesame Seed Chinese Chicken and enjoy!
